How do you know which length to pick? Which length will flatter you best? Whilst it may seem like jewelry is a one size fits all different lengths suit different people and different purposes!
First choose the right length…
14-16 ” are classed as chokers. They look good with anything especially a shirt, scoop or v neck and off the shoulder tops. Remember that a choker does draw attention to your neck so if you have wrinkles, have a short or wide neck or your not confident with your neck you may be better with a longer style necklace. Personally I would choose a delicate style choker over a statement as I think they are more versatile offering more cost per wear. Chokers look great layered with a longer necklace too.
18″ necklaces are called ‘princess necklaces’ and are designed to be worn at the collar bone. Flattering for all face shapes and perfect with most outfits this length offers something for everybody. Consider this length for both delicate and statement necklaces. If you can try and purchase a necklace with adjustable lengths and then you can find the exact length you desire as not everybody’s collar bone sits at 18″.
20-24″ necklaces are called matinee necklaces. These work really well if you have a short wide neck or a rounder face shape as you can wear them between your collar bone and bust, elongating your neck, creating a flattering v shape.. This length works well professionally or casually. If you are petite I would recommend this length or shorter as longer necklaces can swamp your body.
30-35″ necklaces are called pendants, ropes or lariats. These work well with a scoop or v neck. Perfect on tall people with long body lengths. Play around with the length of these and be careful if you have a large bust! Make sure that the necklace has ‘weight’ so it sits well and you don’t end up with it caught over one boob! Not the best of looks. Longer necklaces do look great as they can create a flattering v on your body elongating it.. but avoid if your petite as they will swamp you.
The best advice is to play around .. everybody is different and has different body shapes, styles and needs. I would always try a necklace on and choose an adjustable chain so you can play with the most flattering length for you.
