If you follow me on instagram then you will know that I love clearing my kitchen table on a Friday of the weeks work & clutter & popping a pretty vase or two on the table along with candles & mats to kick start the weekend!
As autumn is upon us the flowers available in the garden are starting to become few & far between. I have really enjoyed playing around with dried poppy seed heads, rose hips & thistles over the last few weeks as they look fabulous in a vase but I wanted something with a bit more colour & shape… so I decided to do some research.
Hydrangeas are busy flowering in the garden & that got me wondering how they would dry! So… I have given it a go & safe to say it works a treat!
Here are my top tips ….
1). Snip off your hydrangea heads leaving as much stem as possible.
2). Cut off any leaves and dead heads with scissors.
3). Trim the stems to the length you want making sure the stem is cut on an angle.
4). Pop an inch of water in a vase or storm lantern (I used our etched glass hurricane lanterns for the job as they are a good size & work as a vase or a lantern, they also have great detail etched in to the glass which I love).
5). Put your heads in to the vase & pop them somewhere coolish to enjoy. The water will evaporate which slowly dries the hydrangea heads out without loosing their colour or form… plus you get to enjoy them as they dry.
You could use a bud vase for shorter stems. You could also dry them upside down in bunches & make a wreath using the heads. Here is a link to a tutorial I found.
